Activities

Every year, HKSC collaborates with filming equipment suppliers, film suppliers and post-production companies to organize seminars and workshops for our members.  Through these activities, members can gain access to the latest technological information and hands-on demonstrations.

HKSC is the first professional body in the industry to coordinate workshop on High Definition Filming.  Back in 2000, when movies were still mostly shot on 35mm format, we have already taken the lead to invite Mr. Newton Thomas Sigel, the DP of “Superman Returns”, to Hong Kong for share his professional experience with our members.  The meeting raised the awareness of our members about this new movie format and the techniques in handling Digital movies filming.  Subsequently, seminars and workshops on Digital movies making have been held on a regular basis.  In 2009, The General manager of “Park Road Post”, a digital post-production lab founded by “King Kong” director Peter Jackson, was invited to share their technical know-how and experience.

Last year, HKSC co-organized with the Hong Kong Film Archive on the “Remembrance of the Avant-garde: Archival Camera Collection Exhibition” and a series of seminars including “Joy and Sorrow of the Great Cinematographer: Arthur Wong”.  Rapport established with the audience during these events has successfully aroused public awareness and appreciation of film and cinematography.

HKSC has also been working closely with other professional film organizations in the production and selection of the “Hong Kong Film Awards”.   Each year, members will select an outstanding cinematographer or a group of cinematographers for the best achievements in cinematography. 

HKSC also offers strong support to the Federation of Hong Kong Filmmakers on their training program.  Most students joined and worked in the film industry after the completion of their training courses.  Many also joined the Society as affiliate members.
